This degree of mental retardation is defined by an IQ from 35 to 49. In childhood, an obvious limitation in motor and neuropsychological development can be observed. Speech development is delayed, and expression remains on the level of simple sentences. Children with this degree of MR also communicate through alternative and augmentative communication. Adults are capable of work, and a certain level of independence if provided with various degrees of support.
