VideOS

Short videos from WELCOME workshops document the use of the application in kindergarten. Videos can be an inspiration for its use when working with a heterogeneous group of children.

Group Activities 1

The teacher carries out the more difficult level of activity no. 46 How Frogs Grow. When working with the app she should include as many children as possible from the group. During the activity she should repeat the instructions and remind the children what their task is.

Group Activities 2

The teacher lets the children vote on whether to pick the lower or higher difficulty level for activity no. 46 How Frogs Grow. She motivates the children to succeed at the more difficult version of the task and repeats the instructions. When ordering the pictures she asks the children to describe what they can see in each picture. Together with them she describes the developmental stages of a frog. The teacher asks the children why each picture belongs in its given place.

Filling in the worksheet

The children’s task is to fill in the worksheet from activity no. 45 Worksheet – Frog. The teacher checks to see the children are sitting correctly. She repeats the instructions on how to work correctly with the worksheet.

Movement activity – motivation and reflection

During the initial motivation for activity no. 44 Movement Game “The Stork and the Frogs, the teacher gets the children to repeat the activity rules by asking them questions. This ensures the children understood the instructions. If the game gets too loud, the teacher motivates the children to quiet down according to the instructions: “The frogs have to be quiet when the Stork is close, so he doesn’t eat them.” During the period of reflection, the teacher uses questions to let the children summarize what was the principle of the movement game, explain the characters’ motivations and how the frogs were able to stay safe.

Example of introducing the movement game

The teacher explains the children the roles there are in activity no. 44 Movement Game “The Stork and the Frogs” in detail. In addition to explaining how the game works, she also explains the motivation of the different characters (stork, frog). She shows how the frogs can escape the Stork. She asks the children to show her how they can rescue themselves (by standing inside the hoops).
